The Rapide has a big V12 engine and an awesome stereo from the Danish iconic B&O

Chevrolet Camaro Coupe 2010 - a reborn legend

The history

The Chevrolet Camaro was born as a competitor to the popular Ford Mustang in the late 60's. They both followed the same receipt to success, slick looks, moderately pricing and huge V8 engines. It remained a success all the way up to the late 1990's.

The Design
The 2010 is true to the original models but has introduced elements from the Chevrolet Z06 and the Raptor Fighter plane. The gray hood and rear stripes is also an original design element.

The engine
The gigantic 6.0L V8 engine was designed for the Corvette and completely in aluminum. The engine delivers raw performance when all 8 cylinders are available - but the engine has a trick up its sleeve as it can run on only 4 cylinders. When running as a standard V4 engine the fuel economy is a modest 24mpg (10.2km/l).

Facts: (SS 2SS)
Engine: V8, 6.2L, 426bhp
Fuel economy: City Eco - 19mpg (8.1km/l), Highway Eco - 24mpg (10.2km/l)
Top speed: 155mph (249km/h)

Dodge Polara Police Car

Sunday, January 3, 2010

Now almost forgotten - the once popular Dodge Polara (Interceptor) from the 1960-70's was a police car that got respect wherever it patrolled. A fierce enormous performance car that could outrun most vehicles on the road.

Facts:
Engine: 375bhp, 4.4L V8

Brabus police car

The German Autobahn (highway) is among the fastest in the world - some stretches even without speed limits and people from all over Europe drives to Germany for this reason alone. So it is not a surprise that the police need something truly extraordinary to patrol the autobahn.
The supercar builder Brabus has taken a Mercedes Benz CLS V12 and turned it into a evermore awesome ride - although the car is mostly for PR purposes as it show the technically skills of Brabus.

Engine: V12 730bhp

Lotus Exige S - getting in contact with the young drivers

The police in East Sussex in the UK had a problem getting in contact with the young drivers - they needed an icebreaker. And they found it: the Lotus Exige S

While the car can outrun most vehicles on the road the East Sussex police is aiming for a preemptive effect. Once a dialog has been established - hopefully they can be convinced that speeding is a pretty dumb carrier move.

Facts:
Engine: 221bhp
Top speed: 147mph (238km/h)
0-60: 4.3 seconds
Price: $65,690

Hummer H3 Police Edition

Rumour has it that the police chief from Lone Tree argueed that the H3 was fuel economic - and of course this is true when compared to the gigantic H1 and slightly smaller H2.

The population of Lone Tree never accepted the decision - also it didn't help that the city advertises itself as ecofriendly (while driving Hummers).

Facts:
Engine: 4x4, 3.5L, 220bhp
0-60mph: 12.5seconds
Top speed: 98mph (158km/h)
Price: $28,935

Caparo T1 - Concept car

Saturday, January 2, 2010

Ok I know, this is only a concept car - but just imagine if this thing ever got on the road.

The Caparo T1's F1 specs is impressive. 575bhp, 0-60mph (100km/h) in 2.5 seconds and a top speed of 200mph (320km/h).

There is no backseat for when arresting criminals but it is probably still a desirable gadget for any highway patrol.

Italian police wrecks Lamborghini

In 2004 the Italian super car company Lamborghini donated a Lamborghini Gallardo to the State Police in Italy - this car is probably the most renowned police car in the world. It has V10 engine with no less than 500bhp and a top speed of 190mph (305km/h). When in pursuit of bad-guys this thing can accelerate from 0-60mph (100km/h) in 4.3 seconds.

See the Lamborghini in action here:

Unfortunately this ultimate police cars has been taken out of service since it was involved in a freak accident in 2009. The Lamborghini crashed into some parked cars in order to avoid a direct collision with another driver.

It is uncertain whether the Italian police will get another "donation" after this episode.

What to use when stopping a riot?

Facing a riot is probably never a pleasant situation for any cop - although I am pretty sure that the vehicles described here certainly help.

See how an angry mob can be stopped efficiently or even scared away when the police brings out the heavy material.

Internation APC
International builds standard trucks but they also supplies the government and armed forces with special armored trucks. The police can use the APC truck that carries 10-12 officers in combat uniforms. The vehicle has run-flat tires and a automatic built-in window cleaning system that can remove paint and other substances thrown by the mob.

Talon Locomotors Riot Control
This vehicle is complete with battering-ram (as demonstrated in the video), grenade launchers, anti-person gas (teargas), water cannon and run-flat tires.

It is an unique vehicle and there is only built 8 of them according to the vendor. It accommodates 14 officers.
See Richard Hammond on YouTube demonstrates this special truck.

Czech Police Armoured Truck
Based upon the Soviet BRDM-2 APC truck which is a 4x4 with 140bhp with a top speed of 62 mph (100km/h) . The weight is a staggering 7tonnes. Original built for combat but is nowadays used in some of the former eastern European countries by the police forces.
Accomodates 4 police officers.
