Now almost forgotten - the once popular Dodge Polara (Interceptor) from the 1960-70's was a police car that got respect wherever it patrolled. A fierce enormous performance car that could outrun most vehicles on the road.
The German Autobahn (highway) is among the fastest in the world - some stretches even without speed limits and people from all over Europe drives to Germany for this reason alone. So it is not a surprise that the police need something truly extraordinary to patrol the autobahn.
The supercar builder Brabus has taken a Mercedes Benz CLS V12 and turned it into a evermore awesome ride - although the car is mostly for PR purposes as it show the technically skills of Brabus.
The police in East Sussex in the UK had a problem getting in contact with the young drivers - they needed an icebreaker. And they found it: the Lotus Exige S
While the car can outrun most vehicles on the road the East Sussex police is aiming for a preemptive effect. Once a dialog has been established - hopefully they can be convinced that speeding is a pretty dumb carrier move.
Rumour has it that the police chief from Lone Tree argueed that the H3 was fuel economic - and of course this is true when compared to the gigantic H1 and slightly smaller H2.
The population of Lone Tree never accepted the decision - also it didn't help that the city advertises itself as ecofriendly (while driving Hummers).
In 2004 the Italian super car company Lamborghini donated a Lamborghini Gallardo to the State Police in Italy - this car is probably the most renowned police car in the world. It has V10 engine with no less than 500bhp and a top speed of 190mph (305km/h). When in pursuit of bad-guys this thing can accelerate from 0-60mph (100km/h) in 4.3 seconds.
See the Lamborghini in action here:
Unfortunately this ultimate police cars has been taken out of service since it was involved in a freak accident in 2009. The Lamborghini crashed into some parked cars in order to avoid a direct collision with another driver.
It is uncertain whether the Italian police will get another "donation" after this episode.
Facing a riot is probably never a pleasant situation for any cop - although I am pretty sure that the vehicles described here certainly help.
See how an angry mob can be stopped efficiently or even scared away when the police brings out the heavy material.
